This program was created as a way for families to work directly with their
children and AIM staff members on topics and activities to enhance the everyday
AIM curriculum. The program meets most Monday’s from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (please
see the schedule for dates and activities). During the two hours, children and their
families participate in a variety of classroom activities (planned around a theme)
designed to help with sensory integration, art and creative development, and gross
and fine motor skills. The program emphasizes language and socialization using the
Hanen Communication Guide. Instruction is tailored for the individual needs of all
the children.
Another important component of the Me & My Family program is
the monthly out and about field trip (please see the schedule for dates and destinations).
We visit a wide variety of parks (some recent examples include Central Park in Santa
Clara, Radio Drive Park in Willow Glen, and Vasona Park in Los Gatos), local attractions
such as happy Hollow and Emma Prusch Farm Park, several indoor locations such as
Oakridge’s newly remodeled play area, and seasonal activities like the local Pumpkin
Patch and Christmas in the Park. Families attending the field trips receive individual
attention on ways to integrate their child into the environment as well as building
friendships with other AIM attendees.
